FileCleaner Pro: Clean Up Your Computer for Free
By Snurre
We all want our computers to run fast. After all, what's the point of having a slow computer that is a pain in the neck to use. Windows is known to slow down with time - even Microsoft realizes that. That's why Windows is equipped with standard maintenance software, such as a disk cleanup utility, a disk defragmenter and a utility to check and repair hard drive errors (Chkdsk). Unfortunately, the built-in Windows maintenance tools are far from perfect. That's why a lot of third party software developers create both free and paid software to speed up Windows.
Disk cleanup is one of the most important maintenance and speedup techniques. That's because Windows tends to accumulate various temporary files that do nothing but clutter your hard drive. In addition to that, daily computer activity records history information that not only hogs your computer but also is a privacy threat. That's why it's very important to remove temporary files and history traces.
One of the most popular disk cleanup utilities that are available for free is Piriform's CCleaner. It's a great utility and was my absolute favourite. Until I found a free utility that I like even more - FileCleaner Pro. This free program has all the features of CCleaner and more. In addition to that, FileCleaner Pro is a lot more intuitive to use. For example, not all users know that CCleaner has a feature called File Shredder. This tool is essential for everyone who wants to protect their privacy. Well, the File Shredder in FileCleaner Pro is easily accessible and can be found really quickly. It enables you to securely shred files and folders, so that even the most advanced file recovery software won't be able to restore them. This tool is especially handy when you want to delete files containing your bank details and other personal information.
Another great feature of FileCleaner Pro is RealTime Protect. With this feature enabled, you won't need to worry about cleaning browser and Windows history as everything will be cleaned up automatically as soon as you close your browser, IM program and shut down your computer. This, in my opinion, is a lot better than an ordinary scheduler.
Speaking of a scheduler, FileCleaner Pro has a pretty good one. You can schedule automatic cleanup to run on a particular day at a particular time - basically, whenever you wans the cleaner to run.
Like I said, FileCleaner Pro is absolutely free to use. It's also free of any viruses and spyware.

Good piece of software and useful hub.
You may also like to check out Comodo System Cleaner. It works very well too, but for the less savvy, also has a backup feature and safe clean (where it tests the system still works well, before deleting the files..
