How to Speed Up Your Web Browser

A slow browser can turn your life into a nightmare - just imagine having to wait for ages for websites to load. And at some point your browser will start freezing and crashing, so that you will lose your open pages and will have to search for them again. Not a good scenario. Luckily, it's possible to speed up your Web browser and thus speed up computer performance in a quick and easy way without having to reinstall anything or spend a cent on hardware upgrades.

Don't overload your browser

Do you like having more than 10 tabs open at once? Well, if you do, then you might want to review your browsing habits. Depending on the specifications of your computer, there is only so many tabs you can have open without starting to overload your RAM. So, if your browser is struggling, close some tabs and enjoy the speed increase.

Clear the cache

The cache is designed to speed up browsing the Web by saving things like images for future reference. Having images in the cache helps Web pages load quicker and thus speeds up website access. But when the cache gets bloated and has too much content, it can make your browser slow instead of speeding it up. That's why it's good to clean the cache weekly. To clear the cache in Internet Explorer, go to Tools - Delete Browsing History. Check the checkboxes for Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History, and click on Delete.

If you are using Firefox, then click on the orange Firefox button and then click on Options. In the new window, go to the Privacy tab and click on the clear recent history link. In the new pop-up window, check the relevant checkboxes, select the time frame from the drop-down menu and click on Clear Now. Your browser will run a lot faster when there is no junk, such as Temporary Internet Files, cookies and bloated history.

Disable add-ons

Add-ons are very useful pieces of software and can improve your privacy, productivity, and help you with your social activity a great deal. But there is a downside - having too many add-ons can make your browser slow. So if your browser starts being sluggish after you install a new add-on, it might be that there are too many of them. You can make your browser fast again by disabling the add-ons you don't use often, especially toolbars. To do that, simply go to the Manage add-ons section in the menu and disable some browser extensions.

Install the most recent updates

This doesn't sound like the most original tip, but updating your browser to the latest version can make a huge difference. Most new builds and version include bug fixes, which improve browser security, stability and speed. To check for the latest browser updates, simply go to Tools or Options and find the relevant option.
